So when ROT Radio asked me to write a bi-weekly music blog for their site of course I was flattered. I’ve been a part of the Houston music scene since 2005 and watched it flourish from the perspective of a musician as well as an avid concert-goer. I sang in numerous projects throughout the years from New Orleans to Los Angeles and am now the singer for Lotus Effect right here in Houston. As a music lover, I’ve been to too many shows to count and I’ve seen bands come and go, flourish and flounder, inspire and confound, so I thought a great way to start would be to mention some of the freshman mistakes I see new bands make. Strap in and lube up, some pills are hard to swallow.
What’s the number 1 mistake new bands make?
Playing shows too early.
The biggest mistake I’ve seen nearly all new bands make is play shows right away. Why is that so wrong? Because you suck. I don’t need to hear your band to know, we all did, and time and time again I see new bands jam it out in the practice room, scrap together five or six songs for a 20 to 30 minute set and start hitting up venues to play shows - to read the entire article click here.
